Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra
The Breckenridge Music Festival began
in 1981 as the Breckenridge Music Institute (BMI). The BMI was founded
by and owes much of its vision to Dr. Kenneth Evans. Dr. Evans served
as its first Conductor and Executive Director. For more than a decade,
Kenny and his wife Dona managed virtually every aspect of the organization.
The BMF has grown steadily in its mission of education and performance.
Its programs of education have developed significantly. The BMF, with substantial
support from The Summit Foundation, brings to local schools the outstanding
programs of music appreciation and education. These are in addition to its
summer music camps and Elderhostel program.
The Festival’s mission is to provide performing arts programs and
arts education to the communities of Summit, Park and Lake Counties.
The Festival’s primary vehicle is the production of a ten-week
summer music festival at the Town of Breckenridge's Riverwalk Center.
The Festival presents both classical concerts and contemporary concerts.
The Breckenridge Music Festival also produces a Winter Concert Series
which utilizes various venues throughout Summit County including the
Summit High School and Middle School auditoriums. The Winter Series has
featured nationally known artists such as the Vienna Choir Boys, U.S.
Army Field Band & Soldiers’ Chorus and the Colorado Children’s
Chorale.
With the addition of the Winter Series the Breckenridge Music Festival
has truly become a YEAR AROUND FESTIVAL!
